What to wear for a newborn photo session

The vibe of a newborn photo shoot is delicate and tender. It is a celebration of the beauty, as well as the fragility of new life.

Colors

To convey this, we employ gentle, muted colors, like white, gray, beige and pastels. Avoid black and dark colours. We are looking to create soft lines, stay away from overly tailored outfits.
Textures A mix of textures in the garments provides depth: linen, gauze, waffle knit, lace, chambray are all good. . Choose comfortable outfits for a relaxed, contented atmosphere. The informality contributes to the air of intimacy and closeness.

Patterns

Small patterns work well, except for too-close thin lines and small checks. To create a balanced picture, mix prints with solids that pick up colors from the print and vary the textures. Florals are always pretty. Words and logos steal the focus, avoid them.

For the mom

A long, flowy dress or jeans with a light top will look good. Don’t hesitate to wear your maternity jeans. Choose items that don’t cut or pull.

For the dad

Jeans or khakis and a button down shirt are fine. Roll up the sleeves, leave the shirt untucked. Or choose a henley, t-shirt or soft knit top.

For the baby

Pick a white onesie, some swaddling blankets, accessories. I have beautiful newborn clothes that you are welcome to use.

For the siblings

Comfortable clothes that coordinate with the rest. Give them options and let them choose, so they feel included.
